by Grace Lichtenstein

If you thought the good gray New York Times was humorless, think again. Someone there decided to send Brooklyn-born Grace Lichtenstein to Denver as bureau chief. A Colorado politician explained to her that Westerners are put off by three things: Bella Abzug, the New York Times and gun control. Lichtenstein has an interesting chapter on guns, but otherwise comes to grips with the West with tired generalizations, chatter and nervous twittering. (Dial, $8.95)
