“Bad Day”

Let’s discount McCartney (did anyone even hear that song?) and Powter (did anyone not get sick of that song?). That leaves us with three worthy contenders in Blunt, Legend and Mayer. Mayer has already won in this category twice before (in 2003 for “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and in 2005 for “Daughters”). Legend, although the class of the field, just won three Grammys last year; he can wait a while. So we’re pulling for Blunt, whose aching and affecting vocal made “You’re Beautiful” more than just a cloyingly pretty pop tune.
