Hill Street Blues’ tough-tender police captain likes his own TV show best; after that comes Cheers (about a Boston bar where the Hill Streeters might hoist an occasional one), “a quality show.” A movie fan, he preferred the sleeper hit Diner, a slice of life-on-wry about five guys hanging out in Baltimore, and the British gangster flick The Long Good Friday. His favorite record of 1982 was Streisand’s LP Memories, and the best read was The Young Rebecca, feminist writings of British journalist Rebecca West.
