The beaches around Miami always beckon sun-worshiping Northerners, but the litter is so bad these days that in some places a person can’t stretch out before policing the area first. Try a local friend for a tip on what’s the cleanest strand around. Lately the dirtiest by far has been Crandon Park, on Key Biscayne. There, even valiant efforts by the county’s maintenance department have been no match for the blanket-to-blanket crowds who bring elaborate meals to the beach and leave their trash behind. A dip in the Atlantic will bring no escape, either. In some areas, the water is polluted, too.
