You just finished starring onstage with Orlando Bloom in Romeo and Juliet.
It’s been super-exciting. I have loved Orlando since I was young. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan. So to work with someone you admire has been great. We really clicked. But I have a boyfriend! We’re just friends.
Your mom is Phylicia Rashad from The Cosby Show. Did she influence you to act?
My mom brought me to the Cosby set, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. But she was adamant about me staying a kid. She was like, “Go play soccer. When you’re older, you can decide.”
You’ve got a band too!
My No. 1 passion is music. I trained for 10 years in classical piano. My album is indie/rock/soul—there’s something Lauryn Hill about it and Tina Turner and Lenny Kravitz.
