On your new album, Corazón, you pull a Supernatural and collaborate with a bunch of different artists again.
Yeah, it’s a variety pack, and I love it! When they come and share with us, I’m like a kid who has all the colors of crayons, not just yellow or red.
Of all the people you’ve worked with over the years, do you have any favorites?
Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Ray Vaughan. All the British guitar heroes, like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. I have a total affinity with them because we love the same thing.
Anyone left on your wish list?
I’d like to work with Prince. He’s a genius. We’ve played together at different [events] but never in the studio. And [I’d like to work] with Sting, Andrea Bocelli and Lady Gaga. I was approached by Lady Gaga’s father, and he was like, “When are you going to do something with my daughter?”
Forty-five years after Woodstock, are you still a hippie at heart?
Totally! One thousand percent. I’m recording some songs with the original band I played with at Woodstock to complete the circle.
