>After an appendectomy in ’03, Colton Burpo, then 4, told his mom and pastor dad Todd he’d been to heaven. Now Todd’s book about it is a hit.
TODD, WHEN DID COLTON FIRST TELL YOU HIS STORY?
Four months afterward, he said that when he was in the hospital, angels sang to him and he sat on Jesus’ lap.
WHAT DID YOU THINK?
We thought, how can this be true? But then he described what we did during his surgery and told us he met his sister who died in his mom’s tummy. Sonja had a miscarriage in ’98. A child in their wildest imagination could not invent that.
COLTON, DO YOU REMEMBER ALL THAT?
Yes. I liked being in the throne room of God and hanging out with my sister. The only thing I didn’t like was she kept giving me hugs.
ARE YOU GLAD YOUR DAD WROTE THE BOOK?
Yes, so other people can know Christ too. I’m grateful it’s No. 1 on the Times bestseller list.
TODD, HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO SKEPTICISM?
I understand it. But we didn’t lead his answers. If this was your kid, what would you believe?
