Lee (Matt Houston) Horsley stars as a Los Angeles homicide chief in this eight-week summer drama. He oversees a squad full of stock characters. George Clooney is the psychic detective, a guy who pores over the evidence until he gets inside the killer’s head. Kate (WIOU) McNeil is the hunch-driven rookie. Al Fann is the seasoned veteran. Horsley is the tough but compassionate boss, a sad-eyed sort right out of the Captain Furillo mold. Heavy weighs the badge. All the detectives take the caseloads home with them. All are laden with remorse and terrible responsibility.

In the regular season. I probably wouldn’t give this predictable, overwritten show a second look. This being the summer session, we grade on a curve.
