Roseanne Arnold makes her TV-movie debut in a frisky formula comedy as a widowed housewife who feels hemmed in by the cookie-cutter personalities of her cul-de-sac neighbors. The gimmick is, she rallies the suburban Stepford wives around her to form a women’s football team.

Roseanne spends the first half of the movie zinging lines over the heads of her sitting-duck costars, including Conchata (L.A. Law) Ferrell and Colleen Camp (walking into a pep rally: “So this is what hell is like?”). In the second half, both Roseanne and her teenage son (Johnny Galecki) find romance (with, respectively, Tom Arnold and Olivia Burnette). That leaves just enough time for the ridiculously anticlimactic game. This marks the first time you can see women in prime time with bigger shoulder pads than those Linda “the Pulling Guard” Evans wore on Dynasty.
