Patrick Simmons

Simmons, who was the last original member of the Doobie Brothers to leave the group before it disbanded, shows on his first solo venture that he hasn’t lost his touch for cohesive pop music. If he’s offering nothing devastatingly original these days, his own Sue Sad and Huey Lewis and the News’ Don’t Make Me Do It are diverting pop rock, long on contagious rhythm and unchallenging lyrics (“Don’t cry Suzy, he ain’t worth it”) and short on complications of any kind.
