The Inheritance

When his father dies, a successful restaurateur (Ulrich Thomsen) in Stockholm moves back to Denmark to take over his family’s factory, alienating his actress wife (Lisa Werlinder). An insightful Danish drama by director Per Fly shows how duty can sometimes be self-imposed and self-denying. (Not rated)

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Will Ferrell stars in a sweet-natured, goofy comedy about a nitwit local anchorman in the 1970s who has trouble accepting a female colleague (Christina Applegate). (PG-13)

Riding Giants

Swell, and we’re not just talking wave size. Even nonsurfers will be awestruck by the stupendous footage—archival and current—that director Stacy Peralta (Dogtown and Z-Boys) includes in this dazzling documentary tribute to big-wave surfing. It covers both the history of the sport and today’s death-defying practitioners. (PG-13)
