“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing,” insists a popular Duke Ellington song. By that standard, this special is one of the most meaningful of the rerun-filled summer. Riffing through hot and cool jazz classics by Ellington, George Gershwin and Count Basie are six of the Swing Era’s most notable players: Teddy Wilson, Clark Terry, Red Norvo, Zoot Sims, Louis Bellson and Milt Hinton. The styles of these men have improved with age. The program was taped last summer at Art-park in Lewistown, N.Y.
