Marlena Shaw

Shaw once again demonstrates that she is a major—if still largely unacknowledged—talent. The LP’s production and arrangements by the formidable Bert deCoteaux are excellent, but it is Shaw’s smooth, soft jazz stylizations that reach the ear and stay in the head. It’s a symptom of her obscurity that perhaps her main claim for attention is that she sang the Looking for Mr. Goodbar theme song, which is included in this release.
