Roseanna Vitro

It would be hard to recommend that anyone buy this record, since it includes some of history’s most listless songs. Vitro has nobody to blame but herself for this; she co-wrote most of them and arranged some with her producer (and husband) Paul Wickliffe. She has a voice and style, however, that suggest a pop jazz singer of considerable talent. A Texan who is a semiprotégé of Steve Allen, a shrewd talent scout, Vitro displays a mixture of sweetness and steely resolve that has earned performing space with such jazz lights as Oscar Peterson and Kenny Barron. Let’s take their word for it, and keep an eye out for Vitro’s next record. (Skyline)
