For anyone wondering how scary this sequel to the dreadful 1984 chiller is, its frightening moments include an attack by a berserk parakeet, a toaster that catches fire and some exploding beer cans. Pretty terrifying, eh? Freddy Krueger, the original Nightmare’s villain, is back with his steel fingernails. Sometimes he is invisible, sometimes he’s not. Sometimes he makes lightning, sometimes he makes snakes appear. Sometimes he just closes doors. His main antagonist is played by Mark Patton, with an intensity better reserved for King Lear. The director, Jack Sholder, has written and directed for PBS. For this he deserves to be boiled in oil or, worse, forced to watch this tedious, humorless mess three or four times in a row. (R)
