By now you may have so conflated Tina Fey and Sarah Palin you aren’t sure who won the Emmy and who hunts moose. Fey’s the first one, back as the star of this superb NBC comedy about an NBC comedy and its staff. Given Rock‘s blah ratings in the past, the new season is stocked with star guests: In the second episode, it’s Oprah Winfrey, which is like getting Zeus to come to your little toga party. Oprah maintains a baffled smile during an airplane flight seated next to Fey, who fawns all over her in an orgiastic demonstration of pathetic neediness. The show hasn’t yet regained the fizzy comic precision that seeped out by the end of Season 2—things can feel sloppily frantic. Then again, Alec Baldwin is still here, a presence even mightier than Oprah. And the show isn’t Kath & Kim, so I’d have to be crazy to complain.
