The stars of the ultimate female road-trip movie look back on their wild ride

Two decades after they drove their 1966 Thunderbird into the Grand Canyon, Geena Davis’ Thelma and Susan Sarandon’s Louise remain one of film’s most iconic female duos. The story of two women on a journey of self-discovery “speaks to everybody that has been held under,” says Sarandon, 64, of the drama (out on Blu-ray Feb. 8). “It tells you to take responsibility and not to settle.” Recalls Davis, 55: “Reactions [to the film] were so passionate.” Also igniting passions: A then-27-year-old Brad Pitt as a sexy hitchhiker. “He was sweet as could be,” says Sarandon. “We all knew he was someone special.”
