The only guy who’s been busier making TV appearances than Michael Jackson over the last few months is Dennis Miller. Of course. Miller’s gig-have carried a lower profile than the King of Pop’s. The comic has more or less cornered the market on cable pseudoevents, performing on TNT’s Super Bowl Saturday Night and serving as host on MTV’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Inaugural Ball and its Movie Awards, as well as on ESPN’s American Sports Awards. TV’s plum hosting job goes once again to Billy Crystal, who presides over the Academy Awards on ABC on Monday (March 29, 9 p.m. ET). As for Miller, this week he gets back to his forte: a live stand-up comedy special on HBO (Sat., March 27, 9:30 p.m. ET). Better tape it. When Miller is riffing, the mordant pop culture references fly by quicker than on an episode of The Simpsons.
