Believe it or not, the TV season is almost over. Time once again to choose our guest star of the year. The winner, in a walkover, is Ian Buchanan. He had a recurring role on Twin Peaks as the prissy department-store dandy who bedded Lucy. He was a villain on The Flash. He even showed up in an Obsession perfume ad, the one that quoted Flaubert. This week he plays F. Scott Fitzgerald in the debut of cable’s Hollywood Detective. Back in his soap days as Duke on General Hospital, he once showed up at an awards show in a kilt and seemed so pretentious. But the Scottish actor brought a breezy air to all his 1990-91 roles, like some distant, slightly daft cousin of Montgomery Clift.
