When he saw how the actress had swept up her hair at her dress fitting, though, it only took him 20 minutes to create a refined version of that look. And while the end result was elegant, McMillan admits, “it had an alien shape, which we were laughing about.” 360º HAIRSTYLES Alicia Keys Voluminous Swoop “Alicia was performing on a massive stage in an arena. After rehearsal it was apparent that she needed [her hair] to look bigger and more pumped up,” says Living Proof stylist Ward Stegerhoek. He slicked the sides, then teased and curled the top to create this pompadour. JULIANNE HOUGH 360º HAIRSTYLES Julianne Hough Intricate Updo “This is one of my favorite styles of all time, but the preparation was ugly—Julianne looked like Medusa!” says stylist Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon in L.A. “We wanted a soft, fairylike style,” explains Capri. But because Hough’s hair is naturally straight, it took an hour of “curling, twisting, tucking and pinning” (over 50 bobby pins were used!) to create the textured effect. ALICIA KEYS 360º HAIRSTYLES Jaime King Coiled Bun The actress needed a style that would stay put during all her fashion week outfit changes. “She wanted it crazy sleek and kind of avant-garde in the back,” says Sally Hershberger stylist Matt Fugate, who whipped up a “slicked-back, runway-inspired” updo by making two tight ponytails, then twisting and wrapping them around one another before securing with pins.
