How about a little hope for the movies’ future? One of the very unsung attractions of Presumed Innocent is Joseph Mazzello, 6, who is stunningly affecting as a boy who has been violently abused by his mother. Huge-eyed Brooke Fontaine, 6, is the closest thing there is to a reason to see Ghost Dad (but you’d be better off waiting until she does Juliet or Ophelia somewhere). And as a country tomboy in Arachnophobia, Theo Schwartz, 10, has a quirky appeal reminiscent of Carl “Alfalfa” Switzer in the “Our Gang” comedies. Hang in there, kids; we need all the help we can get.
