Let’s go over it again: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is about Christmas. Even though they’re Xing out “Christmas” in the title in ads for the film these days, the movie has Christmas gifts and a Christmas tree and Christmas lights. And it wasn’t even that funny when it was Christmas season.

As deceptive movie ads go, though, this probably falls in the middle ground. It’s worse than the current ads for Tango & Cash, which show a pretty face that is actually Kurt Russell in drag. But it’s not as bad as last fall’s bait-and-switch ads for Animal Behavior, which billed Holly Hunter as the star when she had a minor supporting role.
