As we head into the “green” decade, fashion designers, ice-cream makers and garbage-bag producers are just a few of the interest groups elbowing their way onto the ecological bandwagon with various pro-environment products. Publishers, too, are seeing the green in protecting the planet. Dozens of books about the environment have recently appeared: As if hypnotized by the environmental mantra “Think globally, act locally,” half the books address big issues such as ozone and the greenhouse effect while the others are handbooks to help people retool their lives on a smaller scale. Anyone inspired by Earth Day has plenty of places to read all about it.
