Jack Johnson

From Here to Now to You |

FOLK-POP

With alt-folkies like Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran and the Lumineers grabbing the spotlight in 2013, Jack Johnson’s brand of Hawaiian breeziness feels a bit passé. While his latest is another solid effort that will keep his many fans chillaxing, it just kind of floats along without any real surprises or big moments. The blues-tinged “Change,” featuring his longtime bud Ben Harper on harmony vocals and Weissenborn slide guitar, is a nice little switch-up, and “Radiate” punches up the sunniness in this perpetually mellow dude. Perhaps he’s just guilty of still making it all sound so smooth after all these years.
