Young, fresh and clean. That’s how Katrina Bowden’s hairstylist Joey Argeras of Bumble and bumble describes Bowden’s cute do. Argeras applied a thickening spray to Bowden’s wet hair before blow-drying with a round brush for smoothness and volume. “I then lightly backcombed the top section,” she says. Before applying the elastic, she neatened the hair with a brush, without removing volume from the backcombing. After she put the hair in the elastic, she took a small section from the bottom part of the ponytail and smoothed it out with a comb. Argeras applied hairspray to this piece, wrapped it around the ponytail and then secured with a hairpin.

Celebrity stylist Kim Kimble says this chic and easy look is a nice alternative to typical updos. “It’s simple, but the details make it different,” says Kimble of the deep side part and the “swoop bang.” Kimble blow-dried Beyoncé’s hair, then loosely curled it with a curling iron. She used a brush and wax stick to control flyaways on the smooth side. The back was twisted toward the side and secured with bobby pins.
