Vernon will be a little brother to the couple’s 2-year-old daughter Locklyn. •Star Wars creator George Lucas, 69, and his wife, DreamWorks Animation chairwoman Mellody Hobson, 44, welcomed daughter Everest Hobson Lucas via a gestational surrogate on Aug. 9. The new arrival joins Lucas’s three older kids, Amanda, 32, Katie, 25, and Jett, 20.


High School Musical alum Ashley Tisdale, 28, is engaged to Annie Automatic musician Christopher French, 31. On Aug. 8 Tisdale tweeted, “We’re on top of the world,” a nod to French’s reported proposal atop the Empire State Building in New York City. The pair were first spotted together in December.


Britney Spears‘s ex-husband Kevin Federline, 35, tied the knot with his girlfriend of five years Victoria Prince, 30, on Aug. 10. The pair exchanged vows in the penthouse suite of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas one day after announcing their engagement. The couple have a 2-year-old daughter together.


Two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman (inset), 76, is cancer free after recently undergoing treatment. “It was detected early, and he has been surgically cured,” his rep told People on Aug. 6. “Dustin is feeling great and is in good health.” The actor will have to undergo doctor-recommended preventative treatments for years to come to minimize the chance of a recurrence.


Troubled star Amanda Bynes, 27, is under a 30-day hold at a Ventura, Calif., psychiatric hospital, with her doctor seeking a special conservatorship reserved for those considered “gravely disabled” that would grant the power to forcibly medicate her if necessary. Bynes, too ill to show for a court hearing Aug. 9, voiced her objection through her lawyer: “She doesn’t feel there’s a need for [these holds],” her public defender said. Meanwhile, her mom, Lynn, 65, who’s been visiting Bynes daily, has been given temporary control of her person and finances.


Dutch prince Johan Friso, 44, who gave up his position in line to the throne in order to marry his wife, Mabel Wisse Smit, 45, died on Aug. 12 from complications related to brain damage he suffered after a skiing accident in February 2012. He is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Luana, 8, and Zaria, 7.


A prolific performer during the swinging ’60s, Eydie Gormé died at a hospital in Las Vegas at age 84. Gormé charmed audiences alongside her singing partner and husband of nearly 56 years, Steve Lawrence. The “Steve and Eydie” act was formed in 1960, and the duo won fans singing hit songs punctuated with witty banter. “I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing,” Lawrence said in a statement. Gormé also had solo success with the Grammy-nominated “Blame It on the Bossa Nova.” She leaves behind her husband, her son David and a granddaughter.
