MARRIED CNN anchor Erin Burnett, 36, said “I do” to David Rubulotta, 42, a Citigroup managing director, at City Hall in New York City on Dec. 21. The bride wore a red dress to the ceremony and a gold, floor-length gown to the reception. “We’re very casual. I love how at City Hall people come in everything from wedding gowns to jeans. It’s so mellow and chill, just how we like it,” Burnett told PEOPLE. CONVALESCING Britain’s former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, 87, spent Christmas recuperating in the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove a growth from her bladder. “The operation was completely satisfactory,” a spokesman said. DEATHS Jean S. Harris, who was convicted of killing the “Scarsdale Diet” doctor in 1980, died in an assisted-living facility in New Haven, Conn., on Dec. 23. She was 89. Harris, a former headmistress of a girls’ school, shot her lover, cardiologist Herman Tarnower, who wrote the best-selling book The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet, for having an affair. Her case captivated the country for a year. After serving almost 12 years in prison, she was granted clemency in 1992. She later founded the Children of Bedford Inc. to provide tutoring for children of female prison inmates. OUTSIZE CHARACTER ACTOR DIES Charles Durning, who brought his easy smile and formidable presence to more than 200 acting appearances, including Oscar-nominated turns in To Be or Not to Be and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, died of natural causes in New York City on Dec. 24. He was 89. A veteran of World War II, Durning, who was awarded the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts, stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. “I’m happy being a character actor,” Durning said in 2007, when he was given a Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild. “It means work, and I love to work.”
