Die Hard actor Bruce Willis, 57, and his wife of three years, designer-model Emma Heming-Willis, 35, are “overjoyed at the newest member of their family,” daughter Mabel Ray, born April 1 in L.A. Mabel Ray is the first child for the couple. Willis has three other daughters, Rumer, 23, Scout, 20, and Tallulah, 18, with ex-wife Demi Moore, 49.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Jake Gyllenhaal, 31, will be buying pink for his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal, 34, and her husband, actor Peter Sarsgaard, 41. The couple confirmed to USA Today they are welcoming a baby girl in late spring; she will join big sis Ramona, 5.

Is this the end of Linsanity? Jeremy Lin (inset), 23, the biggest story in basketball this season, was suffering from a chronic meniscus tear in his left knee, the New York Knicks revealed on March 31. The first American-born player of Taiwanese descent to play in the NBA underwent knee surgery on April 2, possibly ending his amazing breakthrough season. The point guard will be out for six weeks and upon his return will most likely sit on the bench, regardless of whether the Knicks make it to the playoffs. The Knicks’ regular season ends April 26.

What Happens in Vegas star, Lake Bell, 33, and her tattoo-artist boyfriend of one year Scott Campbell, 34, are getting married. The couple met when he appeared as himself on Bell’s HBO series How to Make It in America.

DIED

The body of renowned ultra-marathoner Micah True, 58, was discovered in a remote part of southern New Mexico’s Gila Wilderness March 31, four days after he failed to return from a 12-mile run. True, a legend in the running world, founded the 50-plus-mile Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon in Urique, Mexico, in 2003. True once said, “If I were to be remembered for anything at all, I would want that to be that I am/was authentic.” Cause of death is unknown, pending autopsy results.

UPDATE

Canada’s Miss Universe pageant, which booted finalist Jenna Talackova, 23, on March 23 for being transgender, will now allow the Canadian native, born male, to compete, “provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions,” says a Miss Universe Organization spokesperson. The former rule said that all contestants “must be naturally born females.”

BANJO LEGEND EARL SCRUGGS DIES

Banjo and bluegrass pioneer Earl Scruggs, 88, died of natural causes March 28 in Nashville. The Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and half of the 20-year duo Flatt and Scruggs modernized country music with his unique style of pickin’ using the thumb and two fingers. The Grammy winner cowrote “The Ballad of Jed Clampett” theme song for TV’s The Beverly Hillbillies. Country star Ricky Skaggs says Scruggs “was always listening not at himself, but at the next generation.”
