CW stars Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), 32, wed his longtime girlfriend, Danneel Harris (One Tree Hill), 31, on May 15 in Dallas. The couple dated for three years before announcing their engagement last November.

CONTROVERSY

Just hours after accepting her Miss USA title in Las Vegas May 16, Lebanese immigrant Rima Fakih, 24, of Dearborn, Mich., might be in jeopardy of losing it. Three years ago Fakih won a “Stripper 101” contest sponsored by Mojo in the Morning. In photos released by the Michigan radio program, Fakih is seen dancing provocatively and with $1 bills stuffed into her top. The station said Miss Universe officials have asked them for more photos and information. When contacted by PEOPLE, the Miss USA organization said it would not comment on the matter.

LEGAL MATTERS

On May 14 in San Diego, John Gardner III, 31, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for raping and murdering two teenage girls. In a move that spared him the death penalty, Gardner, a registered sex offender, pleaded guilty last month to stabbing Amber Dubois, 14, in 2009, and strangling Chelsea King, 17, on Feb. 25. After interviewing Gardner before his sentencing, Carrie McGonigle, Dubois’ mother, told PEOPLE, “I have as much closure as I ever will have. I will never forget what he did, but I can rebuild my life.” • Celebrity chef Juan-Carlos Cruz, 48 (inset), went from cooking to central booking when he was charged with attempted premeditated murder on May 17 in Los Angeles. Authorities say the former host of the Food Network’s Calorie Commando show asked homeless men to kill his wife, Jennifer Campbell, 47, an attorney, who was reportedly despondent because she has been unable to have children. When one of the men informed police of the plot, an undercover operation was started, and the chef was arrested May 13. Cruz has pleaded not guilty and remains in L.A. County jail on $2 million bail.

UPDATE

In their first game since senior Yeardley Love, 22, was found dead on May 3, the University of Virginia women’s lacrosse team, the Cavaliers, scored a 14-12 victory over the Towson University Tigers on May 16 in Charlottesville, Va. The game opened with a moment of silence to honor Love, a Cavaliers defender, as a photo of her wearing her warm-up suit was shown on the stadium scoreboard. Love’s former boyfriend George Huguely, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder in Love’s death and remains in jail pending a June 10 court date.

MORE SADNESS

Actor John Travolta’s two dogs were struck and killed at a Bangor, Maine, airport, a source confirms to PEOPLE. According to city officials, “At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport-service pickup truck was approaching the airplane … and did not see the dogs.” Last year Travolta, 56, and wife Kelly Preston, 47, lost their son Jett, 16, who died after a seizure.
