Superman Returns’ Brandon Routh, 26, popped the question to actress Courtney Ford, 28, his rep tells PEOPLE exclusively. Routh proposed earlier this month with a sparkler from L.A. jeweler Neil Lane. The couple, who costar in the upcoming short film Denial, have been dating for three years and plan to wed next fall…. Scrubs star John C. McGinley, a.k.a. Dr. Perry Cox, got engaged to his girlfriend of 2½ years, yoga teacher Nichole Kessler, 34, Aug. 19 in Malibu. He can thank his son Max, 9, for the introduction. “I was throwing the ball for the dogs in the ocean,” recalls McGinley, 47. “And Max went over to [Nichole] behind me and I was aghast. I was like, ‘Max, you get the dogs. I’ll talk to the hot blondes.'” A wedding date has not been set.

Karen Kozlowski, 45, the wife of ex-Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski, filed for divorce July 31 in Palm Beach County, Fla. Dennis, 59, is currently serving an 8- to 25-year sentence for bilking his former company of $150 million.

LEGAL MATTERS

The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment (below, right) was charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana Aug. 17. After crashing his car in La Cañada Flintbridge, Calif., in July, the actor, who at 18 is under the U.S. legal drinking age, tested for a blood-alcohol content double the legal limit. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 19…. Mel Gibson reached an agreement with prosecutors Aug. 17 in Malibu, pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving with an elevated blood-alcohol level after his arrest July 28 (PEOPLE, Aug. 14, 2006). The actor, 50, was sentenced to three years’ probation, fined $1,608, has agreed to attend Alcoholics Anonymous for a year and had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days…. Rapper Busta Rhymes, a.k.a. Trevor Smith, was charged with assault Aug. 20 in New York City. While few details were released, police did confirm the arrest occurred after Rhymes, 34, allegedly engaged in an altercation with a fan. Police have also reportedly wanted to talk to Rhymes since February about the shooting death of his bodyguard. The artist’s rep could not be reached for comment.

UPDATE

In Starchild Abraham Cherrix’s fight to forgo chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s disease (PEOPLE, Aug. 21, 2006), the 16-year-old reached an agreement with social service officials that allows him to use alternative medical care. Under the arrangement, Cherrix will be treated by an oncologist board-certified in radiation therapy with expertise in alternative treatments. In turn, his family must provide the court with updates on Cherrix’s condition every three months until he’s cured or turns 18.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, 36, and his longtime girlfriend, model Kim Porter (left), 35, are expecting their second child. Son Christian is 8….
