RECUPERATINGThe son of Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett (The Aviator) is being treated at a London hospital for a minor burn on his face after being injured on May 15. One-year-old Roman “had a small accident while visiting his mother in Morocco, where she’s filming,” her rep said in a statement. According to a source, the child was reaching out for a cup of boiling water when it spilled. The actress, 36, also has another son, Dashiell, 3, with husband Andrew Upton. SUINGAn insurance company is suing Tatum O’Neal claiming the actress caused a fire in her Manhattan apartment in April 2004. Merrimack Mutual Fire Insurance alleges the blaze was the result of O’Neal’s “carelessness, recklessness and negligence.” The company is seeking reimbursement for the $75,000 in damages paid to the actress. A rep for O’Neal couldn’t be reached for comment. LEGAL MATTERSOn May 5 in Indianapolis, songwriter Steve Wallace, 34, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Britney Spears, 23, claiming that he wrote her 1999 hit song “Sometimes,” which appeared on the pop star’s debut album, Baby One More Time. Attorneys for the singer denied the claim….Actress Cameron Diaz, 32, has instructed her attorneys to begin libel proceedings against British tabloid The Sun, which suggested in a May 12 article that she cheated on boyfriend Justin Timberlake, 24, by having an affair with Shane Nickerson, the producer of her MTV adventure show Trippin’. “This is a case of a tabloid colluding with the stalkerazzi in an attempt to distort the truth and mislead the public,” said a rep for the actress. A spokesperson for The Sun said they won’t comment until they’ve received legal papers. IN COURTOn MAY 10 in Warrenton, Ga., actor Chris Tucker (Rush Hour), 32, pleaded guilty to speeding and eluding police after a 12-mile car chase on a Georgia highway last month. On April 17 Tucker was pulled over for going 109 mph in a 70 mph speed zone. The actor told police he hadn’t heard the sirens and paid a fine of $6,999. SPLITCiting irreconcilable differences, actress Mena Suvari (American Beauty), 26, filed for divorce May 10 in L.A. from her husband of five years, cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, 43. The couple wed in March 2000 and have no children.
