A Beautiful Mind costars Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, both 32, welcomed their first child, a son, on Aug. 5. The actors wed in Scotland on New Year’s Day. Connelly, who won an Oscar for her role in their 2001 film, has a 6-year-old boy, Kai, from a previous relationship with photographer David Dugan….

Comedic actor Bill Bellamy (Fastlane), 38, and his wife of two years, Kristen, 37, a model, had their first child, daughter Bailey Ivory-Rose, on Aug. 3 in L.A.


The Practice’s Jessica Capshaw, 26, and Christopher Gavigan, 29, a child therapist, became engaged the weekend of Aug. 9 in the Hamptons, in New York. The couple plan to wed next year. Capshaw is the daughter of actress Kate Capshaw and the stepdaughter of Steven Spielberg.


On Aug. 11, after nine months of marriage, model Leslie Ann Woodward, 34, filed for divorce in L.A. from film producer Robert Evans, 73. It was the first marriage for Woodward and the sixth for Evans, whose former wives include Dynasty star Catherine Oxenberg, actress Ali MacGraw and former Miss America Phyllis George….

Raquel Welch, 62, and her fourth husband, restaurateur Richard Palmer, 48, have separated after four years of marriage.


On Aug. 6 in Paris, actor Omar Sharif, 71, best known for his role in the 1965 epic Doctor Zhivago, was given a one-month suspended sentence for hitting a police officer in a suburban Paris casino last month. Sharif was also fined $1,700 and ordered to pay the policeman $340 in damages. A rep for Sharif could not be reached for comment.


The New York City restaurant Rocco’s, owned by celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, 36, was cited on July 29 with six health code violations, including evidence of live flies. The eatery is the setting of NBC’s reality series The Restaurant. A hearing is scheduled for Oct. 22. DiSpirito could not be reached for comment.


Noelle Bush, the 25-year- old daughter of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and a niece of President George Bush, was released from a drug-rehab facility in Florida on Aug. 8 after finishing a court-ordered 16-month treatment. Bush was arrested in January 2002 (PEOPLE, Feb. 11, 2002) and charged with using a fake prescription to at- tempt to buy the anti-anxiety drug Xanax.


Herb Brooks, 66, the coach who led the U.S. hockey team to the “Miracle on Ice” victory over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, died on Aug. 11 after he lost control of his minivan near St. Paul.
