Sex and the City star Kyle MacLachlan, 42, will tie the knot with publicist Desiree Gruber, 34, in April. It will be the first marriage for both.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, 34, and his wife, Rhonda, 34, had a baby girl, Jordan Ashley, on Aug. 24 in Piano, Texas.


Seasoned character actress Kathleen Freeman, 78, who was nominated for a 2001 Tony Award for her role in Broadway’s The Full Monty and who appeared in dozens of television shows including the 1960s sitcoms The Beverly Hillbillies and Hogan’s Heroes and in such films as Singin’ in the Rain and Nutty Professor II, died of lung cancer on Aug. 23 in Manhattan….

Best-selling author Peter Maas, whose nonfiction book Serpico, about a crusading New York City cop, became a hit movie starring Al Pacino in 1973, and who chronicled the Mafia through the eyes of Mob stoolies Joseph Valachi and Sammy “the Bull” Gravano, died of undisclosed causes on Aug. 23 in Manhattan. He was 72….

Jane Greer, who had been married to bandleader Rudy Vallee and starred with Robert Mitchum in the 1947 classic Out of the Past, died on Aug. 24 of complications from cancer in L.A. at age 76.


Actor Jim Belushi (Return to Me), 47, and his wife, Jenny, 33, will have their second child in February. The couple have a 2-year-old daughter, Jamison Bess….

R&B singer Tamia, 26, and her husband, NBA star Grant Hill, 28, anticipate their first child in January.


Tom Hayden, 61, the political activist and former husband of actress Jane Fonda, is recovering in L.A. from a heart attack he suffered Aug. 19.


Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines Pasdar, 26, Emily Robinson, 29, and Martie Seidel, 31, filed a countersuit against Sony Music Entertainment on Aug. 27 in Manhattan, accusing the company of cheating them out of at least $4.1 million in royalties. The country-pop group sought to terminate a seven-album record deal it signed in 1997. In July Sony sued the Chicks, claiming the group owes it damages of $100 million for five undelivered albums.

Legal Matters

In L.A. Randy Jackson, 39, the youngest brother of pop star Michael Jackson, agreed on Aug. 21 to plead guilty to bankruptcy fraud. Jackson, who filed for bankruptcy in 1996, failed to list a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban among his assets. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 24….

Former talk show host Rolonda Watts, 42, was arrested Aug. 22 in L.A. on suspicion of DUI. She was released on $2,500 bail.
