Blues guitarist Luther Allison, 57, who played over his three-decade career with other greats of the genre, including Freddie King and Otis Rush, died on Aug. 12 of lung and brain cancer in Madison, Wis….

Duke Zeibert, 86, whose restaurant near the White House served members of Washington’s power and media elite from Harry Truman to Larry King, died of heart disease and cancer on Aug. 15 in Bethesda, Md. The eatery, which opened in 1950, closed its doors for good in 1994….

Filmmaker Carlton Moss, 88, whose 1944 documentary The Negro Soldier, which the Army made to improve race relations, helped accelerate the drive for desegregation of the armed services, died of undisclosed causes on Aug. 10 in Los Angeles.

Model Kelly Fisher, 30, filed a breach-of-contract suit against her former boyfriend—and Princess Diana’s current beau—Dodi Al Fayed, 42, claiming that he had reneged on his promise to pay her $500,000 for scaling back her career to spend more time with him. Fisher also claims that she believed she was engaged to Al Fayed until newspapers reported his romance with Diana two weeks ago. Al Fayed’s spokeswoman says, “He never promised to marry her.” …

On Aug. 13, Marlene Ramallo Cooke, 44, who was disinherited by her husband, Washington Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke, three months before his death at 84 on April 6, was ordered by a Fauquier County, Va., judge to leave the couple’s $2 million mansion in Washington. The judge also denied her request for a $10,000-a-month living allowance while Cooke’s $825 million estate is settled in court….

On Aug. 13, TV evangelist Rev. Robert Schuller, 70, agreed in a New York federal court to pay an $1,100 fine and enter a six-month court supervision program in a deal to drop charges that he had assaulted a male flight attendant on a June 28 United Airlines flight….

On Aug. 13, lawyers for actor Woody Harrelson, 36, announced an agreement for him to pay a $1,000 fine and spend 25 hours teaching schoolchildren about the environment to settle charges stemming from a demonstration last November. Harrelson and eight others scaled San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to protest logging at Headwaters Forest, an ancient redwood grove in Northern California….

Michael Mishler, 29, and William Holt, 26, both pleaded not guilty on Aug. 12 in L.A. to charges that they tried to extort money from model Elle Macpherson, 33, by threatening to post six sexually explicit photographs of her on the Internet. Mishler also has been charged with stealing the photos from her home….

Fernando Carreira, 71, the Miami houseboat caretaker who discovered the hiding place of spree killer Andrew Cunanan, collected $45,000 in reward money from local, state and federal law enforcement authorities on Aug. 12.

Actor Sean Connery, 67, was shaken but unhurt after a brick thrown from a bridge hit the roof of his Range Rover and shattered its windshield on Aug. 16 in London. No arrests have been made.

Actress Ally Walker, 36, star of the NBC series Profiler, gave birth to a 7 lb., 7 oz. boy, John Walker, on Aug. 6 in L.A. It is the first child for Walker and her husband, NBC executive John Landgraf.
