The Iowa-born Christine, the smiling matron who served “mountain-grown” coffee to young married couples, also appeared in such film classics as 1952’s High Noon, 1956’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers and 1967’s Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.

A Chicago judge ruled July 24 that former A-Team muscleman Mr. T, 44, must pay $4.9 million to two men who say they transformed Lawrence Tero, the former nightclub bouncer, into the mo-hawked, monosyllabic Mr. T. Calvin Hollins and John Bitoy claim that Mr. T, who was diagnosed with lymphoma last November and is reportedly doing well after radiation treatment, agreed in the early ’80s, when they were his coworkers, to pay them 20 percent of his lifetime earnings related to the Mr. T persona. Mr T’s response to the decision: “It’s just one round.”
Comedian Martin Lawrence, 31, who was picked up by police in May after they found him screaming at passersby in an L.A. intersection while carrying a gun in his pants pocket, was detained by Burbank (Calif.) Rapper Warren G (Warren Griffin III), 25, was arrested in West Hollywood on July 24 after police found a handgun and ammunition in his truck. Officers said they had first approached the vehicle because it fit the description of one involved in a July 17 shooting. He was charged with possession of a concealed weapon and released on $10,000 bail. Warren G dismisses the police’s reason for the search as “a bunch of baloney. They decided they wanted to mess with me that night, so the police jacked me up.”
Greece’s Crown Prince Pavlos, 29, and the Crown Princess Pavlos, 27, who was known as Marie-Chantal Miller before her marriage, welcomed their first child, 8-lb., 11-oz. The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Tommy Lasorda, 68, announced on July 29 that he is retiring as the team’s manager and will now serve as a vice president. Lasorda, who underwent an angioplasty on June 26 following a mild heart attack, began his career with the Dodgers as a pitcher 47 years ago. He became the team’s manager in 1976 and led the Dodgers to World Series titles in 1981 and ’88.
