Actor Gilbert Roland, 88, best remembered for his 11-film stint as the Cisco Kid, died of prostate cancer on May 15 at his Beverly Hills home. The Mexican-born Roland appeared in more than 100 films, including Camille (1927) and The Bad and the Beautiful (1953)….

Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson, 91, best known for his personality-development theory, which divides life into eight stages, died of an infection on May 12 at a Harwich, Mass., nursing home. The German-born theorist, who was a student of Sigmund Freud, also coined (he term “identity crisis.”…

Teflon creator Roy Plunked, 83, who helped spawn a multibillion-dollar plastics industry when he inadvertently invented the nonstick substance more than 50 years ago, died of cancer on May 12 at a Corpus Christi, Texas, nursing home.

Gene Kelly, 81, is recovering at his Beverly Hills home after a nine-day stay at a San Francisco hospital for treatment of cellulitis, a bacterial infection of the skin. The actor/choreographer, who has appeared in more than 40 films, was released from the hospital on May 9….

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, 64, was released from a New York City hospital on May 18 after being readmitted two days earlier for further chemotherapy treatment. The former First Lady has been battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma since January. Her family has been at her side.

Actress Lynn Red-grave, 51, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in L.A. on May 17. The actress, whose debts are close to $1 million, cited the costs of lawsuits stemming from the unsatisfactory settlement she received in 1987 for a wrongful-discharge case against the producers of CBS’s House Calls….

On May 16, Shane Stant, 22, the unemployed carpenter who slammed Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan in the knee with a metal baton on Jan. 6, and his uncle, Derrick Smith, 29, a former supervisor at a home for the mentally disabled who drove the getaway car, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit second degree assault. Both were led from a Portland, Ore., courtroom to begin serving 18-month sentences.

On May 17, 2 Live Crew rapper Luther Campbell, 33, was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly drawing a gun and threatening to shoot his girlfriend, Tina Burnett, 21, at their home in Miami Lakes, Fla. He was later released on $7,500 bond.

On May 13, Roseanne Arnold, 41, filed for divorce for the second time in less than a month from her second husband, Tom Arnold, 38, citing “irreconcilable differences.” On April 18 she also filed to end their three-year marriage but reconciled with him three days later.
