Comedian Garrett Morris. 57, remains hospitalized in Los Angeles after undergoing surgery to remove a bullet near his spine. Morris, a member of the original Saturday Night Live cast and a costar of the current Fox series Martin, is expected to make a full recover•’. He was shot on Feb. 24 when assailants attempted to rob him as he approached his parked car. No arrests have been made….

Eldridge Cleaver, 58, a leader of the radical ’60s political party the Black Panthers, is recovering in a Berkeley hospital following an operation to relieve pressure caused by a head injury. Cleaver was brought to the hospital when he started vomiting on March 1, an hour after police arrested him wandering near his home in Berkeley, Calif., and charged him with possession of crack cocaine, carrying drug paraphernalia and being publicly intoxicated. Police are investigating how Cleaver received the injury.

Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty, 22, and her husband of five months, actor Ashley Hamilton, 19, have separated….

Tonight Show band leader Branford Marsalis, 33, filed for divorce on Feb. 24 in L.A. Superior Court. He and his wife, Teresa (age not available), a singer, have been married for nearly nine years. The couple, who separated in August of 1991, have a son. Reese, 8.

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer, 23, and magician David Copperfield, 37, have announced they will wed later this year. It will be the first marriage for both.

Voluptuous actress Anita Morris, 50, who tantalized Broadway audiences dancing in a see through lace bodysuit in the musical Nine (1982), died of cancer at her L.A. home on March 2. Morris also appeared in the films Ruthless People (1986) and The Hotel New Hampshire (1984)….

Derek Jarman, 52, the British filmmaker best known for his homosexually themed movies such as Edward II (1991) and Blue (1993), died of AIDS at a London hospital on Feb. 19. Jarman was also a painter and the author of several books, including three volumes of memoirs….

Electric violinist “Papa” John Creach, 76, a classically trained musician who got his nickname when he became a star performer with the ’70s rock group Jefferson Airplane, died of heart and respiratory complications at an L.A. hospital on Feb. 22. Creach also performed with the rock group Hot Tuna from 1971 to ’73….

Gloria Hatrick Stewart, 75, wife of actor Jimmy Stewart, 85, died of lung cancer at the couple’s Beverly Hills home on Feb. 16. The Stewarts, who married in 1949 and have two children together, were one of Hollywood’s longest-lasting couples….

Actor Ezra Stone, 76, died in an automobile accident near Perth Amboy, N.J., on March 3. Stone, best remembered for his Broadway and radio role as Henry Aid rich, the sitcom teen who always responded to his mother’s call of “Hen-REE! Henry Aldrich!” with his character’s trademark “Coming, Mother!,” later went on to direct several TV shows, including Lassie and Love, American Style….

Journalist and author Randy Shilts, 42, whose 1987 best-seller, And the Band Played On, was a scathing study of the dilatory official response to the AIDS epidemic, died of complications from the disease at his Sonoma, Calif., home on Feb. 17.

Actor-director Clint Eastwood, 63, filed suit against the National Enquirer on March 3 in U.S. District Court in L.A., charging that the tabloid fabricated an interview with him in a Dec. 21 story about his life and work. The Oscar winner is seeking unspecified damages….

Grace Slick, 54, a former vocalist with the Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship, was released on $7,000 bail after being charged with both assault and brandishing a weapon at a police officer at her Tiburon, Calif., home on March 5. Police had gone to Slick’s house after receiving a call from a man who reported a woman firing a shotgun there. When they arrived, a Slick family friend, Ira Lee, 58, reportedly came to the door, shouting to the police, “Kill me!” and then Slick allegedly appeared soon afterward demanding that the officers get off her properly. No charges were brought against Lee….

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, 31, was sentenced on March 3 to one year’s probation after pleading no contest to carrying a loaded semiautomatic pistol in a bag through L.A. International Airport on Nov. 9. Lee also must pay a $200 fine and $340 in penalties….

Chuck Jones, 52, ex-publicist for model-actress Maria Maples Trump, 30, was convicted of burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and weapons possession in New York State Supreme Court on Feb. 16. Jones, who was charged with stealing Mar-la’s shoes, could face up to 15 years in prison….

A $5 million breach-of-contract suit filed by Martha Rave, 77, against Bette Midler, 48, and the producers of the film For the Boys (1991), was dismissed by an L.A. Superior Court judge on Feb. 23. Raye charged that Midler had lifted details from an outline Raye had done of her own life story and added them to the script of Boys. The judge ruled, however, that there was no basis for Raye’s suit….

Charges filed in a civil lawsuit against Chicago’s Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, 65, by Steven Cook, 34, who had accused the cardinal of sexually abusing him as a teen, were dropped on Feb. 28 when Cook, a former substance-abuse counselor, said he could no longer be sure of the accuracy of the memory “recovered” during hypnosis. Cook, who filed a $10 million lawsuit last November, also claimed he was abused by the Rev. Ellis Harsham of Cincinnati. That suit is still pending….

On March 8, after a nearly two-week stay at a Sarasota, Fla., center for troubled teenagers, Kimberly Mays, 15, the Florida girl who was switched at birth with another baby, decided to move in with Ernest and Regina Twigg, the biological parents she “divorced” seven months ago after being raised by Robert Mays. A court-appointed lawyer for Kimberly says that Robert Mays has agreed to the temporary arrangement, and that all concerned believe it to be in Kimberly’s best interest.

Eddie Murphy, 32, and his wife, Nicole, 26, a former model, are expecting their third child next fall. They are the parents of Bria, 4, and Myles, 1….

Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Lionel Richie, 44, and his girl-friend, clothing designer Diane Alexander, 27, are looking forward to the arrival of baby No. 1 in June. Richie has a daughter, Nicole, 12, from his first marriage….
