Infamous Hollywood divorce and palimony lawyer Marvin Mitchelson, 64, whose big-name clients included Sonny Bono, Joan Collins and Bianca Jagger, was convicted in Los Angeles on Feb. 9 of tax fraud. He was found guilty in federal court of hiding up to $2 million in income between 1983 and 1986. Sentencing is set for April: he laces up to 12 years in jail and $1 million in fines.

Soap-opera actress joy Garrett, 47, who played Jo Johnson on NBC’s Days of Our Lives, died of liver failure on Feb. 11 in L.A. Garrett taped her final show last Dec. 14; it aired Jan. 12. Before joining Days, she had appeared on Broadway and in the CBS soap The Young and the Restless….

Former CBS News president Richard Salant, 78, died on Feb. 16 of heart failure after collapsing While giving a speech near his home in New Canaan, Conn. Under Salant, CBS began regular broadcasts of the half-hour CBS Evening News in 1963 and 60 Minutes in 1968….

Barbecue king George A. Stephen, 71, who invented that yuppie favorite, the Weber Kettle grill, died Feb. 11 of kidney cancer in Kildeer, Ill. Stephen, an engineer, hit upon the idea of a covered, bubble-shaped metal grill in 1951 while watching a metal buoy being made. He began manufacturing of the Weber grills full-time in the late ’50s and was soon on his way to becoming a millionaire.

Friends, lovers and fellow actors Sean penn, 32, and Robin Wright, 26, expect their second baby in August. Daughter Dylan Frances Perm is 22 months old.

Singer Annie Lennox. land her husband, filmmaker Uri Fruchtman, both 38, had their second daughter on Feb. 9 in London. The 6 lb. 8 oz. girl, Tali, joins her sister. Lola, 2….

Janet Hubert-Whitten, 37, who plays Aunt Viv on NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, gave birth to her first child, son Elijah Isaac Whitten, 8 lbs. 8 oz., in L.A. on Feb. 8. Dad is TV writer James Whitten. Aunt Viv had a baby boy on the show this Monday (Feb. 22).

Edward M. Kennedy Jr., 31, the elder son of Sen. Edward Kennedy, will wed Dr. katherine Gershman, 33, a psychiatrist, this fall. Edward Jr., a cancer survivor who lost his right leg to the disease at age 12, is now the director of community projects for a lead-detection program at the Yale medical school’s pediatries department in New Haven….

Night Court’s Richard Moll. 50, who played Bull, the bald bailiff, and Susan Brown, 31, a sportswear and handbag designer, also are planning a fall wedding. Comedian Milton Berle will then become Moll’s father-in-law, since Berle is married to Brown’s mother, Lorna.
