Football star Lyle Alzado, 43, a ferocious defensive lineman who made All-Pro twice during his 15-year NFL career, died May 14 in Portland, Oreg., of brain cancer. The Brooklyn-born athlete blamed his disease on body-building steroids, which he admitted using throughout his football career, spending as much as $30,000 a year to obtain the drugs. Looking on the positive side, Pauling told reporters, “It may be that my vitamin C put the cancer off by 20 years.”
Gimme a Break’s Nell Carter, 43, wed Canadian record producer Roger Larocque, 39, in a midnight ceremony in Las Vegas on May 14. Carter, who has been married twice before and has three children, met Larocque last year on a blind date. “I am happy at last,” she says. “I feel totally complete now.”
