If Rosie Perez was looking for a pair of cement boots and a dip in the Hudson, she was making all the right moves. “I don’t like Jersey guys,” teased the actress as she schmoozed with the cast of The Sopranos at the Sept. 5 premiere of the HBO hit’s fourth season. Lucky for her James Gandolfini, who plays Mob boss Tony Soprano, and the rest of the Garden State gang were out of character—most of the time. “Youse are gonna love it,” said Tony Sirico (who plays Paulie Walnuts) of the show. “Buckle in, baby!”

Meanwhile, over at Times Square, more Jersey guys (Bon Jovi), rapper Eve and neocrooner Enrique Iglesias rocked 500,000 revelers at a public concert to kick off the NFL season. “This is the NFL and city of New York letting the world know that this city is resilient,” said Jon Bon Jovi, who closed his band’s set with “America the Beautiful.” Later, he and guitarist Richie Sambora stopped by the Sopranos post-premiere bash at Rockefeller Center, where the crowd downed shrimp scampi, chicken parmigiana and other foods ending in vowels. So are Sundays for watching football or the Family? Sirico has his own favorite activity: “I like to make a sauce, open up a little bottle of wine and call a dame.”
