Two hand-painted wooden arrows on a path directing guests to the cottage where Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath married longtime love Carin Kingsland on Sept. 24 said it all: “Let’s do this thing!” read one. Then, “Finally!”

After nearly two decades of dating-and two-and-a-half years after welcoming son Lydon and daughter Hartley-the couple said “I do” at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif. “After 18 years of breakups, makeups, beautiful twins and an unwavering love that provided some pretty damn good song lyrics, we are happy to announce that we are finally married!” they told PEOPLE.

The rocker, 44, and his bride, 39 (joined at the altar by their twins), both shed tears during the 20-minute ceremony, which was performed by a family friend. “We all held hands,” says Kingsland. “It was magical.”

Afterward a flamenco guitarist and steel drummer performed Bob Marley’s “One Love,” while guests (including director McG, the best man) sipped white sangria before sitting down to a three-course lunch. (The kids’ table was treated to a bubble machine and a balloon artist.) “It was chic, colorful but most importantly, fun,” says wedding planner Jaime Kostechko of True Blue Events. Says McGrath: “The day was made even more special being surrounded by the love of family and friends.”
