“When it comes to talent and sexy looks, no other man in Hollywood compares to Ryan Gosling

Anne Weeks West Linn, Ore.

Thanks so much for your outstanding feature on Ryan Gosling. This accomplished actor comes across as a kind, down-to-earth, all-around great guy. And that’s what every woman wants.

Ryan Gosling could very well fit your cover description of “America’s Most Wanted,” but he’s Canadian, and you can bet we Canadians want him too!

I may be old enough to be his mother, but seeing Ryan Gosling flashing those incredible baby blues on your cover had my heart skipping a beat.

As the mother of twin college-sophomore daughters, I had to cry while reading about the still-unexplained disappearance of Indiana sophomore Lauren Spierer. These days most kids at universities go through an experimental partying stage, learn a few lessons along the way and ultimately grow up to be responsible adults. Lauren didn’t deserve to just vanish in the night. If anybody knows something that might shed light on this mystery, the time to speak up is now. Jeanne Bergeron Manhasset, N.Y.

Reading about the marital split of Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy saddened me. Are Bethenny’s priorities in the right place? She had so many good things going on in her life with Jason and their daughter Bryn, yet she seems bent on chasing some elusive happiness that she may never achieve.

I think it is unfortunate that People chose to do an article on so-called dumb criminals. Yes, the individuals you wrote about committed harebrained crimes, but do they deserve national ridicule? Please keep in mind that these folks have families who probably don’t need any more embarrassment.

I was so pleased with your piece on Sonia Sotomayor. When she walked out with President Obama and Vice President Biden to meet the press after her nomination to the Supreme Court, I must have been just about the proudest Puerto Rican on the planet. Justice Sotomayor has lived the American dream and is truly an inspiration to Latinas everywhere.

Patti Page was arguably the most popular female vocalist of the 1950s, with numerous Top 10 hits, some of which went all the way to No. 1 on the charts. She also was one of the first vocalists to employ the innovation of multitrack recording. Surely her death rated more than nine lines in your Passages section.

More than two years ago, Rutgers University freshman Tyler Clementi, 18, took his own life after being cyberbullied by a fellow student over his homo-sexuality. On Feb. 4 his parents, Joe and Jane Clementi, will announce the formation of the Tyler Clementi Center at Rutgers. This center for students will offer seminars and support research into the impact of social media on young people, youth suicides (particularly those of gay youth), bullying and cyberbullying. “If a center like this had existed when he was alive,” says Tyler’s father, Joe, “it might have made a difference in helping him get through a rough period in his life.”
