Archive John Goodman, Roseanne Barr's Big Guy Co-Star, Has a Big-Time Wedding in the Big Easy By People Staff Published on November 13, 1989 12:00 PM Share Tweet Pin Email It was your basic ritzy wedding, Big Easy style, the kind of swank to-do to which everyday folks like TV’s Dan and Roseanne Conner hardly get engraved invitations. But for the real-life cast of Roseanne, plus their friends, family and colleagues, it was the social event of the season. Having proposed on the banks of the Mississippi River last April, Roseanne’s John Goodman, 37, married 21-year-old Anna Elizabeth Hartzog. The ceremony at New Orleans’s Saint Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church was followed by a three-hour cruise aboard a Mississippi riverboat, featuring entertainment by Aaron Neville and friends. Flying in for the ceremony was Goodman’s co-star, Roseanne Barr, who brought along her fiancé, Tom Arnold. Other celeb pals in attendance included Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, plus Dann Florek, who played Dave Meyer on L.A. Law. Goodman’s Sea of Love co-star Al Pacino couldn’t make it, but he did send his regards, in the form of a vocalist who serenaded the 650 guests trooping aboard the Creole Queen. The ceremony, which was cloaked in secrecy, began with Neville singing “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” The bride, known as Annabeth, was escorted down the aisle by her father, Seymon, a real estate developer from Bogalusa, La. It was the first trip to the altar for both Goodman and Hartzog, who met in 1987 while he was on location in New Orleans filming Everybody’s All-American. At the time, Hartzog was a fine-arts student at the University of New Orleans. The new couple says the honeymoon will have to wait until after Thanksgiving, when there’s a break in the Roseanne shooting schedule. Then they’ll head for France, although they’re not saying exactly where. Odds are, however, it’ll probably be a place Dan and Roseanne Conner could only dream about.
