When Joe Manganiello decided to propose to girlfriend Sofia Vergara during their Hawaiian holiday getaway he didn’t leave anything up to chance. Instead he contacted the posh St. Regis Hotel in Princeville, Kauai, to figure out the best place to pop the question. “Joe definitely planned ahead,” says a source. “He didn’t want to propose in a public setting, even though there are so many beautiful spots on the grounds.” PEOPLE’s 2014 Hottest Bachelor opted to present the Colombian-born beauty with a whopping ring in the privacy of their palatial suite overlooking the Pacific. After she said yes, they celebrated with champagne and desserts sent to their room.

Though their love story has been swift—Manganiello, 38, and Vergara, 42, began dating less than two months after Vergara and her former boyfriend, entrepreneur Nick Loeb, called off their engagement in May—to those around them, the news came as no surprise. “From the start, they seemed to be totally in sync,” an insider says of the couple. “They have incredible chemistry and a lot of fun together. They’ll have a very happy marriage.”
