People.com Archive James Durbin: An 'Idol' Rocker Wedding By Kevin O'Donnell and Marisa Laudadio Published on January 16, 2012 12:00 PM Share Tweet Pin Email Surrounded by 85 friends and family in a candlelit chapel near Santa Cruz, Calif., James Durbin choked up as his bride, Heidi Lowe, walked the aisle. “I was flabbergasted,” he says. “I cried a ton.” There was also lots of laughter for Durbin, 23, who overcame Tourette’s and Asperger’s syndrome to take fourth place on American Idol last season. He and Heidi, 31, giggled as they snapped photos of guests at the Dec. 31 ceremony at their pastor’s suggestion. And their son Hunter, 2, marked lighter moments by yelling, “That was funny!” Says Durbin: “It was the comic relief we needed.” That playfulness continued at the rock-themed bash: The groomsmen-including Idol‘s Stefano Langone as best man-wore black Converse sneakers, the bridesmaids donned cowboy boots, and the cake had lyrics to Journey’s “Faithfully.” Guests included Durbin’s fellow Idol finalists Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart, who lent Heidi a bracelet for “something borrowed.” The highlight? A visit from Queensrÿche’s Geoff Tate, who duetted with Durbin on “Take Hold of the Flame.” Says Heidi: “It was like a crazy concert.” Now they’ll honeymoon in Yosemite with “cocoa in the morning and wine at night,” says Durbin. “I can’t describe how much I love her, but now we’re married, so I can show it!”
