“One night while I was out on Blake’s tour, we were on his bus after a show. It was late and his Backstory on GAC happened to be on TV. His dad was on it talking about Blake’s brother Richie [who died in a car accident when he was 24 and Blake was 14]. After we watched it, we started talking about Richie. Blake was telling stories, and it was the first time he really opened up to me about all the little details of their life. He picked up the guitar and started playing some chords, and I started singing some words and it kind of snowballed. It was the only time I ever cried writing a song-we both did. We looked at each other like, ‘I can’t believe we’re crying!’ The whole experience just brought us closer.”
