What was it like starring in your first big romance, If I Stay?
I’m not a very vulnerable girl in general, so I needed to break down my walls. It was harder to play since it wasn’t my natural instinct.
Your character plays the cello. Was it hard to learn? It was easy hearing the notes. When cellists play, there’s this emotional thing that happens. I wanted to capture that.
You’re also in The 5th Wave—an adaptation of another YA novel. I feel a connection with these projects. Even though they fall under that “young adult” label, they deal with much larger issues.
