PLAITS

ELIZABETH BANKS at the American Music Awards

When hairstylist Adir Abergel set out to “create something outside of the box,” not only was Banks on board, she proposed a plait! “I wanted to take a classic style and make it cool. Elizabeth suggested we put a braid in the parting of her hair,” explained Abergel, who also laid another braid along her hairline. “I thought it was genius.”

CORNROWS

HILARY SWANK at The Homesman premiere

From the front, Swank’s half-up style seems anything but edgy. But the star turned heads when she turned to the side, revealing three braids which hairstylist Robert Vetica created after seeing her textured dress. “I’d never done this on Hilary before. But she was up for anything.”

FRENCH BRAIDS

JAIME KING at a Valentino event

The idea for King’s look came from the catwalk. “Jaime was wearing a gown from Valentino’s 2015 resort collection. On the runway, the models had braids, so she wanted to hint at that,” says her hair pro Sarah Potempa, who spent 30 minutes constructing two plaits that “look like basket weaving.”

BRAID & BUN

RITA ORA at a Z100 Jingle Ball event

Blink and you’ll miss it. Known for her bold-hair looks, Ora chose a simple braid to accent her swirling bun. “We always have something up our sleeves. Right now we’re [into] looks that are clean, with a twist,” says her hair pro Chris Appleton, who had just 60 seconds to sculpt the updo, which shows off the singer’s undercut.
