Fall Beauty Bonus! GUEST EDITED BY Drew Barrymore

DEAR READER, Being a guest editor for People felt right because I’ve talked to the magazine about every journey in my life. And now, as the owner of FLOWER, I’ve learned that the beauty industry should never make us feel like we are supposed to be any different than we are. Believe me, I love products. I try everything, I buy everything, and I love recommendations. But it’s important to remember that happiness is the best makeup you could ever find. For me, when a girl is smiling, she looks her prettiest. So if I can help make her a happy person, then all of her beauty will be real. It’s always about how we can be the best version of ourselves.

“#commuterbeauty,” she captioned this adorable Instagram shot.

Check Out Drew’s New Scents! “They’re for the woman who is trying to be as happy as she can be,” says Barrymore. FLOWER Sultry, Radiant and Cherished Fragrances, $24.98 each; walmart.com

What else is new from Drew’s line?

Makeup bags ($7.98 and up) and brushes ($6.98 and up) like the ones seen here, available at Walmart.

Everything Drew!

WE QUIZ THE STAR ON HER MOST MEMORABLE STYLE MOMENTS, TURNING THE BIG 4-0, HER HAIR COLOR AND MORE

My style icon is …

David Bowie.

I love anyone who is a human butterfly, just constantly changing.

The first time I stepped on a red carpet, I thought …

“Yeah, this puffy dress and rabbit fur coat rocks.”

It was the Academy Awards, I was 8 years old, and there was no such thing as too many layers.

I don’t care what anyone says, I love when I tried …

The blue gown and crazy, sexy bed-head at the 2009 Golden Globes.

It was pretty crazy, but I was going through a ’60s, just-got-out-of-bed, Italian cinema movie star [phase]. People were like, “What are you doing?”

My own style in three words is …

Schlumpy. Baggy. Confused.

I can’t wait until Olive can fit into my …

High heels.

I have a wonderful shoe collection, but none of them fit since I had the girls.

When Olive saw my dark-brown hair (left) for the first time, she …

Looked at me—like cocked her head to the side—and then just went on as if nothing ever happened.

Of all the hair colors I’ve ever tried, my favorite is …

Red.

I’d really love to go back to it. I think redheads are the sexiest creatures because they have an exotic beauty like no one else on the planet.

If I could trade hair with anyone, it would be …

Barbra Streisand in What’s Up, Doc?

It’s the best hair ever.

My first memory of playing with makeup is …

Being in a makeup trailer when I was a kid.

I just loved touching it and watching people get ready. That’s why I have a beauty company now, because it reminds me of being let into some secret world that I feel privileged to watch.

My husband’s fave scent from my new collection is …

Sultry, which is perfect because it’s inspired by the story of romance and remembering to feel sexy.

The beauty product I spare no expense for is …

Christine Chin’s Solid Gold evening moisturizer.

Every time I put it on, I’m completely healed the next day. She charges an arm and a leg, but I swear it’s amazing.

When I turn 40 on Feb. 22 …

I’m going to heave a huge sigh of relief.

I’m so happy to be there. I really am. You work so hard to get there, and it’s just so awesome.

The ’80s. It was just a freer time. We weren’t as worried.

SLEEP IN OR WORK OUT?

SLEEP. IN! In capitals!

COFFEE OR COCKTAIL?

Cocktail. Wine.

DAISIES OR GARDENIAS?

It’s so hard, but I’d have to pick gardenias.

SMOKY EYE OR RED LIP?

Red lip.

STRAIGHT OR CURLY?

I love a curl; it has that spunk and effervescence, you can’t beat it.

HEELS OR FLATS?

Ugh, flats. Let’s get honest.

IN-STORE OR ONLINE?

Only in-store. I’ve never shopped online for anything.

BAKED, MASHED OR FRIED?

Fried.

COOK OR BE COOKED FOR?

Cook. My food sucks, but I’m trying.

SUNRISE OR SUNSET?

Sunset. I know this because I stayed up for 24 hours once in Fredericksburg, Texas, and saw both in the span of one day. I decided I liked sunsets, for sure.
