From Jessica Alba‘s party-ready hair and makeup to the hottest ways to pair nail polish with jewelry, here’s your guide to looking gorgeously glam this season

Hairstylist Jen Atkin brushed Alba’s hair into a low ponytail, leaving out a few strands for a “romantic feel.” Then she twisted it into a bun.

Andersen wanted Alba’s skin to look extra luminous, so she blended bronzer on the apples of her cheeks and swept it up toward her temples.

Makeup artist Lauren Andersen emphasized Alba’s eyes with black liner, mascara and a hefty dose of faux fringe. “Lashes make a statement, so we stepped up her look with a set.”

“This makeup is clean and simple, but I wanted it to be feminine too. I applied a nude lipstick with a hint of pink using a lip brush,” says Andersen.

Three Special Party Looks

You don’t always have to do it yourself. Give yourself permission to splurge at the salon. Frédéric Fekkai’s Lindsay Block tells you exactly what to ask for

The Undone Chignon

Angelina Jolie

1. Go with the ease of this look. It’s the imperfections—the wispy hairline, the teased texture in the back—that make it fresh and modern.

2. The full chignon provides the wow factor, so if your hair isn’t as full as Angelina’s, fake it with filler.

3. Don’t overdo it with product. There is nothing sleek or stiff about her do.

Retro Curls

Allison Williams

1. The molded curls should look defined but not stiff.

2. The deep side part is key.

3. Use mousse or hair spray for a smooth, glossy finish.

Voluminous Blowout

Kate Upton

1. Kate’s amazing volume around her hairline makes this style stand out.

2 . Her highlights also provide major texture. Consider getting some to enhance dimension.

3. Carry a travel-size hair spray for touch-ups. Flip your hair upside down and spray the roots.
